Resumo: Objective: This article proposes to discuss the implementation of cultural mediation practices in the context of teaching and academic research, highlighting the contribution of such practices to the broadening of epistemological horizons of scientific thought. Such objectives are supported by the recognition of the scientific method as the most daring form of systematization of knowledge developed by humanity, however in opposition to the idea that scientific knowledge is the only carrier of rigor and validity. Methods: We will undertake exploratory research around the concepts of "information mediation" and "cultural mediation" (as thought of in the dialogues between information and social communication studies), amalgamating them in a notion of "cultural mediation of information". Subsequently, the criticism of the uses of modern science's rationality in colonization policies will serve as a motto for the defense of its approach to other epistemologies and concepts of life and the world; in this context, the idea of translation emerges as an example of the practice of cultural mediation of information. Results: We understand that the process of “disenchantment of the world”, which operates a kind of marginalization of knowledge of traditional peoples and minorities around the planet, can be overcome through the adoption of practices of cultural mediation of information, understanding that scientific investigation should take place not only within the scope of instrumental rationalization of the processes of knowing, but also taking into account the singularities and pluralities constructed and reconstructed from symbolic exchanges on the cultural field. Conclusions: The practices of cultural mediation of information, such as the translation processes described in this article, are essential for the dialogue between knowledge and intercultural understanding of phenomena to be successful, allowing science, "reenchanted", to develop actions and techniques guided by a non-colonial view of the world, humanity and thought.
