Resumo: In a context of expansion of working-class villages across the country, the kindergarten is one of the main institutions for childcare. In workers' villages in the southern coal region of Santa Catarina, especially from the end of the 1950s, these institutions have emerged under the administration of women religious from five female religious congregations. In 1956, the Little Missionary Sisters of Charity arrived in the working villages of the city of Siderópolis, in Vila Rica and Vila C, owned by Carbonífera Treviso, and in Vila Fiorita, by Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional - CSN. It is about this action that this article deals with, in order to understand the missionary pedagogies in action in the field of childhood in Vila Operária Fiorita. It can be inferred that the work of the Little Missionary Sisters of Charity sought to shape the childhood of the sons and daughters of the workers of CSN, associating, mainly, pedagogical and religious knowledge and, in addition, patriotic values.
