Resumo: Objective: analyze the sterilization process in a Family Health Center in the West of Santa Catarina in light of Brazilian legislation. Methodology: it is a study carried out as an integrative activity of a nursing undergraduate course at the State University of Santa Catarina, through a semi-structured checklist, developed from the Resolution of the National Sanitary Surveillance Agency’s Collegiate Board - nº 15 of March 15th, 2012, which sets the minimum standards required in the processing of health products. Conclusion: although it was verified the physical structure of the material center is adequate, there are failures in the sterilization process, storage, monitoring and recording the stages during the sterilization process, besides the professional unpreparedness in the identification of the product’s validity.

Conclusion: although it was verified the physical structure of the material center is adequate, there are failures in the sterilization process, storage, monitoring and recording the stages during the sterilization process, besides the professional unpreparedness in the identification of the product’s validity.Objetivo: analisar o processo de esterilização de um Centro de Saúde da Família no Oeste de Santa Catarina à luz da legislação brasileira.  Metodologia: trata-se de estudo realizado como atividade integrativa de um curso de graduação em Enfermagem da Universidade do Estado de Santa Catarina, através de um checklist semi-estruturado, desenvolvido a partir da Resolução da Diretoria Colegiada da Agência Nacional de Vigilância Sanitária - nº 15 de 15 de março de 2012, a qual define os padrões mínimos necessários para o processamento de produtos para saúde. Conclusão: verificou-se que embora a estrutura física da central de materiais seja adequada, existem falhas no processo de esterilização, armazenamento, monitoramento e registro das etapas do processo de esterilização, além do despreparo profissional quanto à identificação da validade dos produtos.
