Resumo: The aim of this study is to describe the prevalence of overweight and obesity in Brazil in 2006 and 2016, according to gender and education and to verify if education is still a protective factor for women, and if among men, the paradox education / obesity still remains. This study used the information from the survey “Surveillance of Risk Factors and Protection for Chronic Diseases by Telephone Survey” (VIGITEL) from 2006 and 2016. Contrary to recent evidence found in the US and Europe, education does not appear play a protective role for Brazilian men regarding overweight and obesity. Regarding women, this variable is still important, as it seems to have a protective role for weight gain, although it is already possible to identify that even among the most educated, the increased prevalence of overweight and obesity in the period.

Universidade Federal de Santa Maria2019-08-01info:eu-repo/semantics/articleinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersionapplication/pdfhttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaude/article/view/3248210.5902/2236583432482Saúde (Santa Maria); Revista Saúde (Santa Maria), Vol.45, n.2, maio-ago. 2019Saúde (Santa Maria); Revista Saúde (Santa Maria), Vol.45, n.2, maio-ago. 20192236-58340103-4499reponame:Saúde (Santa Maria)instname:Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)instacron:UFSMporhttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaude/article/view/32482/pdfCopyright (c) 2019 Saúde (Santa Maria)info:eu-repo/semantics/openAccessDias Júnior, Claudio SantiagoVerona, Ana Paula2020-03-05T19:25:22Zoai:ojs.pkp.sfu.ca:article/32482Revistahttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaudePUBhttps://periodicos.ufsm.br/revistasaude/oairevistasaude.ufsm@gmail.com || amanda.revsaude@gmail.com || beatriz.revsaude@gmail.com2236-58342236-5834opendoar:2020-03-05T19:25:22Saúde (Santa Maria) - Universidade Federal de Santa Maria (UFSM)false
