Resumo: Objective: To caracterize the body image and the functional capacity of the ostomized person. Methods: Quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectiostudy. Developed in a specialized sector for ostomized people.Data were collected between September and October 2019, with 27 people by methods Socioeconomic and Clinical Characterization Sheet, Steglich Self-Esteem Questionnaire and Self-Image and the Functional Independence Measure. Results: The predominance of the sample was female, and intestine neoplasia was the pathology of higher clinical incidence. Regarding body image, the sample was adapted to this new relationship between the person with a stoma and their body, but with an impact on sexual activities. Regarding MIF functions, a sample demonstrates independence in self-care activities, but dependent on sphincter control, 70.4% level 3 assistance. Conclusion: Despite the process of ostomy and rupture of daily life, the study samples remade their body image. Analyzing this adaptation in functionality, it can also be noted only in sphincter control has a percentage difference compared to assisting in performing this task.

Métodos: Estudo quantitativo, descritivo, transversal. Desenvolvido num setor especializado referência para as pessoas estomizadas. A coleta foi realizada de setembro a outubro de 2019, com 27 sujeitos através dos instrumentos Ficha de Caracterização Socioeconômica e Clínica, Questionário Autoestima e Autoimagem de Steglich e a Medida Independência Funcional. Resultados: O predomínio da amostra foi do sexo feminino, e a neoplasia de intestino à patologia de maior incidência clínica. Referente à imagem corporal, amostra demonstrou adaptada nesta nova relação da pessoa estomizada e seu corpo, mas com impacto nas atividades sexuais. Quanto à funcionalidade, a amostra demostrou-se independente para as atividades de autocuidados, porém, no controle de esfíncteres, 70,4% assistência nível 3. Conclusão: Apesar do processo de estomização e a ruptura de um cotidiano, os sujeitos do estudo conseguiram ressignificar sua imagem corporal.
