Objective: To characterize school footprints according to age and body mass index (BMI). Method: This is a cross-sectional study conducted at a Philanthropic Institution. The sample was 56 schoolchildren, 34 females and 22 males, aged from 5 to 12 years. Body mass and height were measured for BMI and plantigraphy was performed to obtain footprint. For the statistical analysis, the Statistical Package for Social Sciences version 17.0 (SPSS) was used and a significance level of 5%. Results: The mean age of the students was 8.70 (±1.82) years and the BMI was 17.13 (±2.83) kg/m2. Among the 56 participants (112 feet out of 56 evaluated), the majority (44.64%) obtained a normal footprint. A moderate and significant correlation was observed between age and right foot (r= -0.45; p= 0.000) and left foot (r= -0.40, p= 0.002), also between height and right foot (r= -0.45; p=0.000) and left foot (r= -0.38, p= 0.003). Conclusion: It can be concluded that most of the students had normal feet and that the lower is the age and the height, the greater is the presence of flat feet. These findings demonstrate that these students are developing according to the physiological standard development.
