Society has been demanding that organizations keep a posture of social and environmental responsibility. From these demands organizations have been concerned with investing in actions that compensate the natural and human resources, that they use to achieve their activities. In addition, companies are motivated by several reasons to invest in the socio-environmental area, among these are the good corporate image and regulatory actions. In view of this, this study sought to answer the following problem question: does the economic-financial performance influence the social-environmental investments of companies in the South of Brazil? Aiming to answer the problem question, the purpose of this research was to analyze if the economic-financial performance influences the social-environmental investments of companies in the South of Brazil. The analysis comprised the years 2013 to 2017. The study sample comprised the companies listed in the ranking of the 500 Largest Companies in the South of Brazil, according to Amanhã magazine and listed in B3, totaling 10 companies. This is a descriptive, documentary and quantitative research. The results show that the number of employees and net income influence internal social investments. On the other hand, net income, company size, EBITDA, and number of employees impact on external social investments. Finally, the size of the company, lagged environmental investments, net profit and the variation of lagged net revenue influence environmental investments. These results reveal that the largest companies in the South of Brazil, based on their results, invest in socio-environmental issues, thus contributing to the company's results, generating benefits for society and the environment.
