 Resumo: Contos, novelas e romances são encontrados com frequência em jornais portugueses a partir de 1830, pouco comentados, no entanto, são os casos daqueles publicados nos primeiros anos do século XIX, algumas vezes divididos em números, nos quais nos centraremos. Ao pesquisar sobre essas narrativas, traremos, com base em textos teóricos, dados sobre o periodismo e a censura em Portugal e acerca de alguns títulos publicados em outros países da Europa, por iniciativa de imigrantes. Além disso, descreveremos e comentaremos um desses títulos, encontrado no Brasil. A conquista dos leitores portugueses para um novo tipo de leitura, de recreio em meio aos textos de instrução, também será foco de nossas análises.Palavras-chave: jornais portugueses; narrativas; leitura. Abstract: Short stories and novels are frequently found in Portuguese newspapers from 1830, however, we do not see a lot of studies about the cases of those stories published in the first decades of the nineteenth century, sometimes serialized and chapters. In this paper, we will focus on the narratives published in the first years of the nineteenth century. Searching on these narratives, we will bring, based on theoretical texts, information about journalism and censorship in Portugal, about some titles published in other European countries, on the initiative of immigrants, and we will describe and comment one of them, found in Brazil . The conquest of the Portuguese readers to a new kind of reading, for pleasure among the instructional texts, will also be subject of our analysis.Keywords: Portuguese newspapers; narratives; reading.
