Resumo: The goal of this article is to re-examine the debate on income distribution in Brazil in the early 1970s. In the methodology, an attempt is made to articulate the conflicting nature of the debate, taking into account the networks created by economists, their trajectories, the arguments raised in academic articles and in the written press. On one side are economists close to the government, such as Carlos Geraldo Langoni. On the other hand, there were also other interpretations, such as those by Albert Fishlow, Maria da Conceição Tavares, José Serra, Paul Singer, Edmar Lisboa Bacha, John Wells, Pedro Malan and Rodolfo Hoffmann.
