This work seeks to reflect on the issue of transvestite prostitution, considering this phenomenon in the context of mental disorders. Objective: To identify signs and symptoms of Common Mental Disorders (CMD) among sex workers of the city of Uberlândia - MG. Methods: A cross-sectional, descriptive and quantitative study was carried out with 46 shemale sex workers from June to December 2017. For data collection, a questionnaire on sociodemographic information and the Self Report Questionnaire (SQR-20) that at the end is made a sum of the points and if the result is greater than or equal to seven, some mental disorder is verified for the interviewee. Results: The participants' ages ranged from 18 to 44 years, with the mean age being 24.3 years. The minority has completed secondary education (28.30%); on ethnicity the majority (41.30%) considerer themselves browns; Most civil status (84.80%) are single. Of 46 transvestites, 18 (39.13%) presented a positive result for TMC. Considerations: The results on TMC even though it is negative for most of the interviewees, does not rule out that there needs to be more public health measures and studies on this population.
