Resumo: The present work aimed to characterize the management of waste from health services in the municipality of Santa Vitória - MG, identifying weaknesses and strengths that will contribute to the revision of the Municipal Solid Waste Management Plan created in 2017. For this purpose, it was analyzed the management of waste from health services in the municipality of Santa Vitória - MG through a diagnosis elaborated after a gravimetric study and field work in six health establishments of the municipality. To support the diagnosis, a characterization of the study area was carried out, as well as a survey of current legislation and a discussion of the problems concerning solid waste in Brazil. The diagnosis exposes some challenges encountered, mainly related to the packaging and transport of this type of waste, and notes the need for greater inspection by the public authorities, in addition to the need for an awareness campaign for the population and professionals working in these establishments.

Para tanto foi analisado o gerenciamento dos resíduos dos serviços de saúde do município de Santa Vitória – MG, através de um diagnóstico elaborado, após um estudo gravimétrico e um trabalho de campo em seis estabelecimentos de saúde do município. Para embasar o diagnóstico foram feitos uma caracterização da área de estudo, um levantamento das legislações vigentes e uma discussão da problemática acerca dos resíduos sólidos no Brasil.
