Resumo: The research line is based on Constitutional Law and the principles governing democracy and popular participation in the Brazilian legal system. Firstly, an analysis will be made of the emergence of democracy in the world, the evolution of democracy in Brazil and the principles of democracy and citizenship. Afterwards, some comments will be drawn regarding the Brazilian Constitution, in the light of the principles studied, in order to understand the forms of popular participation in the legal system of the country. Finally, we’ll study the reasons why the population, through the People's Initiative, should be considered as legitimized to the filing of a Proposed Amendment to the Constitution, even though it is not expressly included in the constitutional text.

Em seguida, serão traçados alguns comentários a respeito da Constituição brasileira, à luz dos princípios estudados, de forma a entender as formas de participação popular vigentes no ordenamento jurídico do País.
