In general, the history of dairy farming in Brazil is related to the history of the Brazilian economy. In this sense, in the 1990s, changes at the macroeconomic level made in Brazilian politics, among which stand out the liberalization of the market and integration into Mercosur, have a decisive impact on the trajectory followed by the dairy sector. Allied to these, they reflect the transformations directly related to dairy farming, whose most notorious emblem is the end of the price fixing decreed at the beginning of the 1990s. which, although it has promoted changes in all the links of the milk agribusiness, has had a stronger impact on primary production, at the level of milk producers. In this perspective, we evaluate, in this dissertation, the impacts of the process of restructuring dairy farming in the State of Minas Gerais and its corresponding mesoregions from the structure of primary production of dairy activity in this State. Thus, the trend scenario for the future of the dairy sector in Minas Gerais, as well as in the Minas Gerais regions, is based on estimates that point to a considerable exclusion of a large number of producers, excluded from the technological development of the activity. It should be noted, however, that the analysis made in this work does not represent a finished analysis, since the future of dairy farming, as well as the future of any economic activity, is conditioned to the economic, political and social model followed by the Nation, as well as the insertion of the Brazilian economy in worldwide.
