Resumo: | Malaria is an infectious disease transmitted by the female Anopheles mosquito, and its etiological agent is a protozoan of the genus Plasmodium. Children are subject to greater toxicity from the infection and account for more than two-thirds of all malaria-related deaths. Since, unlike adults, they are more likely to develop complications such as cerebral malaria, anemia, dyspnea related to metabolic acidosis and seizures. This study aimed to carry out a clinical and epidemiological characterization of Malaria, in pediatric age, in the state of Minas Gerais. The present work carries out a descriptive observational epidemiological study, with secondary data obtained from SINAN, reported in the state of Minas Gerais from January 2007 to December 2018. male population with 64.52%, According to the results of parasitological tests, it was observed that 61.29% were related to infections caused exclusively by Plasmodium vivax, 22.58% by P. falciparum and 16.13% by both pathogens. Despite the limited number of cases reported in recent years in the state of Minas Gerais, attention is essential to avoid strengthening local transmission. Therefore, obtaining the profile of the infected is the first step towards adopting measures to prevent the importation of cases. Thus, establishing policies aimed at educating the population about the disease and ways to prevent it, in addition to defining the places with the highest incidence in order to monitor and carry out control actions. |
