Autismo e integração sensorial - a intervenção psicomotora como um instrumento facilitador no atendimento de crianças e adolescentes autistas.

The Psychomotricity presents itself as a non-invasive alternative to minimize the damage of disturbances of sensory integration, common in autistic individuals, guiding the intervention proposal of the study. From this perspective this research, of qualitative character, aims to identify the possible contributions in different aspects of everyday life of children and adolescents with autism, psychomotor stimulation focusing on sensory integration. It was performed a follow-up of five students, aged between 7 and 14 years, diagnosed with autism and surveyed the possible benefits achieved all over the ten months of intervention. The sessions were weekly, lasting about 50 minutes, at the Psychomotor Stimulation Laboratory in the Department of Physical Education at the Federal University of Viçosa. All sessions were recorded by means of semistructured observation report, and being performed interviews with the responsible and followed the everyday activities by means of parental records investigated in all sessions. The main results observed were changes in the these students behavior, who presented initially significant approximations with pictures of autism described in the literature guiding this work: repulsion to touch, isolation, lack of interest in toys and games appropriate to their age, inappropriate use of objects, among others. These behavioral changes, added to the tolerance to environmental variations and magnification of communication capacity qualified positively the results.
