Compatibilidade do predador Brontocoris tabidus (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) com algodoeiro com glândulas de gossipol

Resumo: | The use of resistant cultivars in cotton plant production makes important to know the effects of them on insect pests and on those species of the third trophic level that are controlling agents. The objective was to evaluate the development, reproduction and parameters of the life table of the predator Brontocoris tabidus (Signoret, 1852) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) on cotton plant genotypes with or without gossypol glands. A total of 10 second instar nymphs was used per organza bag involving a cotton plant leaf XG15 (high gossypol level) (T1) and 10 second instar nymphs per organza bag involving a leaf of cotton plants of the glandless variety (without gossipol) (T2) with 13 replications. Forty pairs of B. tabidus were used, being 20 on cotton plants with high gossypol (XG15) and 20 on the susceptible variety (glandless) originated from those nymphs. The duration and the survival nymph stage of B. tabidus were similar on cotton plants with or without gossypol glands. The number of eggs/female was 167.00 ± 27.55 and 185.16 ± 25.89 on plants with or and without gossypol glands, respectively. The parameters of the life table were similar between treatments with liquid reproductive rate (R0) of 28.92 and 22.50 females per female; duration of a generation (DG) of 49.00 and 48.72 days, time for the population to double in size (DT) of 10.03 and 10.08 days, rates of intrinsic population increase (rm) of 0.068 and 0.064 and finite reason of increase (λ) of 1.071 and 1.066 female progenies per female, respectively. Brontocoris tabidus developed and reproduced with success on cotton plant with gossypol glands, what shows the compatibility of plants of this variety with the release of this predator in the field. |

O objetivo foi avaliar o desenvolvimento, reprodução e parâmetros da tabela de vida do predador Brontocoris tabidus (Signoret, 1852) (Heteroptera: Pentatomidae) em genótipos de algodoeiro com e sem glândulas de gossipol. Para isso, utilizou-se 10 ninfas de segundo estádio por saco de organza envolvendo uma folha de algodoeiro XG15 (alto teor de gossipol) (T1), e 10 ninfas de segundo estádio por saco de organza envolvendo uma folha de algodoeiro variedade glandless (sem gossipol) (T2), com 13 repetições por tratamento. Foram utilizados 40 casais de B. tabidus, sendo 20 em algodoeiro com alto teor de gossipol (XG15) e 20 na variedade susceptível (glandless) provenientes dessas ninfas. A duração e a sobrevivência ninfal de B. tabidus foram semelhantes em plantas de algodoeiro com e sem glândulas de gossipol. O número de ovos/fêmea foi de 167 ± 27,55 e 185,16 ± 25,89 nos tratamentos com e sem glândulas de gossipol, respectivamente. Os parâmetros da tabela de vida foram semelhantes entre tratamentos com taxa líquida (R0) de reprodução de 28,92 e 22,50 fêmeas por fêmea; duração de uma geração (DG) de 49 e 48,72 dias, tempo para a população dobrar de tamanho (DT) de 10,03 e 10,08 dias, taxa intrínseca de aumento populacional (rm) de 0,068 e 0,064 e razão finita de aumento (λ) de 1,071 e 1,066 progênies fêmeas por fêmea, respectivamente.
