Resumo: | Global demand for energy is associated with increased consumption of fossil fuels, so that most countries are conscious of the need to use alternative sources of renewable energy. In this context, there is the forest biomass with features such as high moisture content, low calorific value, low fixed carbon content and high volatile material content. Among the alternatives to improve the energy properties of the heterogeneous fuel, highlights the processes of thermal treatment and briquetting. Thus this study aimed to evaluate the effect of thermal treatment of wood of different species in the production of briquettes. We used the wood of Mimosa scabrella (Bracatinga) Dipteryx odorata (Cumaru), Eucalyptus grandis, Aspidosperma populifolium (Peroba mica) and Eucalyptus sp., thermal treated at temperatures of 180, 200 and 220 °C for sixty minutes each temperature in stove with a nitrogen atmosphere. The briquettes were produced in laboratory briquetter using a temperature 120 °C, pressing time of 7 minutes and cooling time of 6 minutes, and pressures equal to 70,3; 105,4 e 140,6 kgf/cm2. To evaluate the properties of heat treated particles, were determined the immediate chemical analysis and high calorific value. The quality of the briquettes was evaluated by determining the physical and mechanical properties. The results showed the potential of different species for the production briquettes. The best thermal treatment temperature was 220 °C, principally related to energy density of the briquettes. The compression pressure of 105,4 e 140,6 kgf/cm2 were more suitable for the production of briquettes, by increasing, in general, the density and rupture load. The high calorific value of different species, generally increased with increasing thermal treatment temperature. |
