This study aimed to evaluate the dynamics of the stems carbon storage in a Semideciduous forest. The study was conducted through monitoring of 10 rectangular plots with 20 x 50 m, which were measured all individuals with DBH ≥ 5 cm in the 1994, 1997, 2000, 2004 and 2008 years. Were observed small variations in floristic composition and species diversity throughout the monitoring period. The lower value found for the Shannon diversity index was 3.96 and the highest 4.07. Concerning successional categories, there was a predominance of early successional species, followed by late secondary species, pioneer species and unrated species. For the total monitoring period, the admission and mortality annual rates were 1.57 and 1.87% respectively. The stems carbon storage increased from 47.9 ton ha-1 in the 1994 year to 61.81 ton ha-1, in 2008 year, representing, for the monitoring 14 years, a regular annual increase of 0.994 ton ha-1 year-1. The most representative families in the area, in carbon stocks terms, were the Leguminoseae, Flacourtiaceae and Euphorbiaceae families. The species showing the largest stem carbon stocks were Anadenanthera peregrina, Newtonia contorta, Apuleia leiocarpa and Casearia ulmifolia.
