O estudo foi realizado com três mulheres migrantes, de baixa escolaridade e de classe média baixa, residentes no bairro Santo Antônio, Viçosa-MG. Fundamentando-se na abordagem qualitativa, recorreu-se às técnicas da observação do cotidiano familiar e da entrevista aberta. A análise dos dados ocorreu após a transcrição das entrevistas, do registro das observações em diários de campo, da sistematização e da categorização temática. Os resultados evidenciaram que por meio do trabalho doméstico são reproduzidos os papéis sociais femininos; sua execução assume o caráter de “obrigação” para a mulher, ao passo que, para o homem possui o caráter de “ajuda”. Entretanto, nas relações cotidianas as mulheres, por meio desse trabalho, exercem micro poderes, desmistificando a imagem do homem-controlador do lar. Concluiu-se que as atividades domésticas são representadas por elas como parte constituinte da identidade feminina.This article aimed to understand the social place of housework for women. The study was realized with three migrant women with low education and lower middle class, that living in Santo Antônio neighborhood, Viçosa. Basing on the qualitative approach, we appealed to the techniques of observation of daily family life and open interview. Data analysis occurred after transcription of the interviews, the recording of observations in field diaries, the systematization and thematic categorization. The results showed that through housework are played the female social roles; its implementation assumes the character of "obligation" to the woman, while, for man has the character of "help". However in everyday relationships women play micro powers, demystifying the image of the man-controller into the home.
