Lesbian love and silence in Mar Becker’s poetry

Resumo: This paper proposes an investigation of two poems that make up the section “Lesbos”, from the work A mulher submersa (2020), by Mar Becker. From an analysis of the expression plane, content plane and their intersections, the effects of meaning of these texts are observed, to reflect on lesbian protagonism in contemporary Brazilian literature of female authorship. To bring the lesbian love to the center of literary studies, this study aimed to value productions that focus on the role of lesbian women in Brazilian literature and a representation free of censorship, taboos or stereotypes. The re-signification of silence, in particular, is emphasized: even though, historically, women have loved each other in silence due to social coercion, Becker works this silence as one that is only possible in the comfort between two equals who recognize each other; as a love that does not need status, jurisdiction or the support of the dominant discourse to legitimize it; that survives even if they try to push it to the footnotes of history; that can be understood without the need for explanations. According to the author (Becker, 2020, translated by the author), “the love of a man/for a woman depends on so many words/but a woman loves another in silence”.

A partir del análisis del plano de expresión, del plano de contenido y de sus intersecciones, buscamos observar los efectos de sentido de estos textos, para reflexionar sobre el protagonismo lésbico en la literatura brasileña contemporánea de autoría femenina. Para llevar el amor lésbico al centro de los estudios literarios, pretendemos valorar las producciones que trabajan el protagonismo de la mujer lesbiana en la literatura brasileña y una representación libre de censura, tabúes o estereotipos. Destacamos, en particular, la resignificación del silencio: si bien, históricamente, las mujeres se han amado en silencio debido a la coacción social, Becker trabaja este silencio como uno que sólo es posible en la comodidad entre dos iguales que se reconocen; como un amor que no necesita estatus, jurisdicción o el apoyo del discurso dominante para legitimarse; que sobrevive aunque intenten empujarlo a las notas a pie de página de la historia; que se hace entender sin necesidad de explicarlo. Según el autor (Becker, 2020), “depende de tantas palabras el amor de un hombre/por una mujer/pero una mujer ama a otra en silencio”.Este estudo propôs uma investigação de dois poemas que compõem a seção “Lesbos”, da obra A mulher submersa (2020), de Mar Becker. Com base em uma análise do plano de expressão, do plano de conteúdo e de suas intersecções, buscamos observar os efeitos de sentido desses textos a fim de refletir sobre o protagonismo lésbico na literatura brasileira contemporânea de autoria feminina. Para trazer o amor lésbico para o centro dos estudos literários, objetivamos valorizar produções que trabalhem na literatura brasileira o protagonismo da mulher lésbica e uma representação livre de censuras, tabus ou estereótipos. Enfatizamos especialmente a ressignificação do silêncio: ainda que, historicamente, mulheres tenham amado umas às outras em silêncio por coerções sociais, Becker trabalha esse silêncio como aquele que só se faz possível no conforto entre duas iguais que se reconhecem; enquanto um amor que não precisa de estatuto, de jurisdição nem do amparo do discurso dominante para legitimá-lo; que sobrevive mesmo que o tentem empurrar para os rodapés da história; que se faz compreender sem precisar explicá-lo.
