Education and citizenship: reflections from formative experiences with children and young people

Resumo: Training for political participation is fundamental for the consolidation of a democratic society. The values, notions, and attitudes come from socialization in school and non-school environment, and effective actions are important to build politically sophisticated subjects. This article explores the results of research developed in Master's courses (professional and academic), organized from the concern to understand the formative dynamics of children and young people in relation to citizenship. The analytical focus is on two case studies in which school practices in elementary education and a project of the municipal legislative power are examined based on references from the field of human sciences. The analyzed experiences suggest the importance of spaces for political socialization of the new generations, articulating the dimensions of politics and citizenship in a democratic context.  Key words: citizenship; political socialization; democracy.

Os valores, noções e atitudes são provenientes da socialização em espaços escolares e não escolares, sendo importante ações efetivas de construção de sujeitos politicamente sofisticados. Este artigo explora resultados de pesquisas desenvolvidas em cursos de mestrado (profissional e acadêmico), organizadas a partir da preocupação em compreender a dinâmica formativa de crianças e jovens em relação à cidadania. O foco analítico são dois estudos de caso em que as práticas escolares no ensino fundamental e um projeto do poder legislativo municipal são examinados a partir de referenciais do campo das ciências humanas.
