Resumo: | ABSTRACT: The use of water stress resistance inducers in plants has been studied as an important tool to increase productivity in agricultural crops. Solanum lycopersicum L. (tomato) has great relevance among the vegetables, both economically and socially, for its large volume of production and job creation. The objective of the present study was to evaluate if the application of the resistance inducer ASM was effective on the production of lettuce subjected to water stress in sterile and non-sterile soils. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with six replications and three periods of resistance inductor application, being the treatments: T1: Non Sterile Soil; T2: Unsterile Soil + Bion; T3: Non Sterilized Soil + Bion + Organic Fertilizer (Vinasse); T4: Unsterile Soil + Organic Fertilizer; T5: Sterile Soil; T6: Sterilized Soil + Bion; T7: Sterilized Soil + Bion + Organic Fertilizer and T8: Sterilized Soil + Organic Fertilizer. The stomatal conductance, chlorophyll a, b and total index, fresh shoot mass (MFPA), dry shoot mass (MSPA), height, stem diameter and enzymatic activity of β-1,3-glucanase (GLU) were evaluated., peroxidase (POX), polyphenoloxidase (PFO) and phenylalanine ammonia lyase (FAL). Acibenzolar-S-methyl interfered with the physiological and biochemical parameters of tomatoes. The combination between resistance inductor and organic fertilizer affected tomato production components. The effect of the resistance inducer increased the production of fresh, dry mass, photosynthetic rate and stomatal conductance per tomato plant. According to the results obtained, it is possible to observe that the acibenzolar-S-methyl inducer was able to act on the systemic resistance to water stress, activating the enzymatic activity of peroxidase, polyphenoloxidase, phenylalanine amonia lyase and β 1-3-glucanase in tomato plants.
