Resumo: Text presents questions about high school expansion in the state of Paraná, marking the end of the 1940s as a beginning of this process. The sources mobilized indicate some social aspects that changed the demand for high school, government actions to attend the needs and the contradictions of the expansion. Such issues shaped a network of public high schools numerically superior to institutions in the private sphere, although the obstacles to expansion may have made it more difficult to guarantee access to high school for a more significant portion of the population. At the end, situates the engendering of discussions and actions aiming at the transformation of this schooling level.

Las fuentes movilizadas indican aspectos sociales que han cambiado la demanda de enseñanza secundaria, las acciones del gobierno para tratar de satisfacer las necesidades y las contradicciones del proceso de expansión. Tales cuestiones describen una red de establecimientos públicos de enseñanza secundaria numéricamente superior a las instituciones en la esfera privada, aunque los obstáculos a la expansión pueden haber hecho que sea más difícil garantizar el acceso a la enseñanza secundaria para una porción más significativa de la población. Al final, ubica la generación de debates y acciones dirigidas a la transformación de este nivel de educación.Texto apresenta questões sobre o ensino secundário no estado do Paraná, assinalando o final da década de 1940 como marco do processo de expansão do nível de ensino. As fontes mobilizadas indicam aspectos sociais que modificaram a demanda pelo ensino secundário, as ações governamentais para procurar atender às necessidades e as contradições do processo de expansão. Tais questões dão contornos a uma rede de estabelecimentos públicos de ensino secundário numericamente superior às instituições da esfera privada, embora os óbices da expansão possam ter dificultado a garantia de acesso ao ensino secundário para uma parcela mais significativa da população.
