Resumo:  It aims to analyze the expectations and difficulties of public high school students in relation toaccess and permanence in higher education. Qualitative and quantitative, the research took place throughthe application of a questionnaire with 27 questions, in three classes of the 3rd grade of high school, in theday and night shifts. The total number of participants was 67 students, which corresponds to about 80% ofthe students who were attending classes. When the public school student chooses to continue his studies, heencounters some barriers, such as: lack of access policies and unpreparedness to perform entrance exams /ENEM, lack of financial condition to continue his studies. For these conditions to be resolved, it is necessaryto improve the quality of education at the secondary level, as well as, maintain and propagate the conditionsof access and permanence

De caráter quali-quantitativo, a pesquisa ocorreu a partir da aplicação de questionário com 27 perguntas, em três turmas da 3ª série do ensino médio, nos turnos diurno e noturno. O total de participantes foram 67 alunos, o que corresponde a cerca de 80% dos discentes que estavam frequentando as aulas. Quando o aluno do ensino público escolhe pela continuidade dos estudos, ele encontra algumas barreiras como: desconhecimento de políticas de acesso e permanência, despreparo para realização de vestibulares/ENEM, falta de condição financeira para continuação dos estudos.
