Resumo:   A pesquisa agrícola passa a ser vista ao longo do século XX como fundamental para o desenvolvimento da América Latina. Para atender a demanda, desenvolvem-se institutos de pesquisa agropecuária, visando conceder a essa área o respaldo científico para a empreitada. Nos anos de 1940, há uma intensificação desse processo, visto o papel desempenhado pela ciência na Segunda Guerra Mundial. Em relação ao Brasil, podemos observar a sua materialização através da formação da Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (Embrapa) nos anos de 1970. Destarte, este artigo tem como objetivo geral analisar a criação dessa instituição no contexto de transformação da produção agrícola mundial, mediante modificações promovidas pela ciência e tecnologia que caracterizaram a Revolução Verde, buscando compreender e analisar a intervenção dos EUA no processo de constituição institucional.

To attend this demand, we percept the beginning of agriculture research institutes development as a method to give the necessary support to agricultural field. There was an intensification of this process in the 1940s, mainly about the role that science and technology played on Second World War. Taking the Brazilian situation, we can see the materialization of this process through Empresa Brasileira de Pesquisa Agropecuária (Embrapa) foundation in the 1970s. This article’s main objective is to analysis this institution foundation in the context of the transformation passed by global crop production through modifications provided by science and technology, which was characterized by the Green Revolution, seeking to understand and analyze the EUA intervention in the institutional formation process.Universidade de São Paulo.
