Higher Education dropout in on-site couses: a preventive proposal through statistical treatment

Resumo: This study aimed to propose the statistical treatment to investigate possible causes of dropout in a Higher Education Institution (HEI). The statistical method adopted outlined the student profile prone to dropout according to contingency tables that allows the use of the chi-square test to obtain the association between dropout and socioeconomic status. The results delineated the profile: male gender, 16 to 20 years old, single, not graduated from the University; satisfactory knowledge of the English language; basic computer science, employed, belongs to the family with a monthly income until 1.5 minimum salary, without interruption from private high school to University.

Con el método estadístico adoptado se halló el perfil del alumno propenso a la evasión en función de tablas de contigencia que permite usar el test chi-cuadrado para evaluar la relación entre evasión y condición socioeconómica. Los resultados demostraron el perfil: género masculino, de grupo etario de 16 a 20 años, soltero, que no cursa el último año de bachillerato; con conocimientos satisfactorios en la lengua inglesa, básico de informática, posee un empleo, el cual pertenece a una familia que declara ingresos mensuales igual o inferior a 1,5 sueldos mínimos y sin discontinuidad de enseñanza secundaria privada para el superior.O trabalho teve por objetivo propor o tratamento estatístico para investigar possíveis causas da evasão em uma Instituição do Ensino Superior (IES). O método estatístico adotado traçou o perfil do aluno propenso à evasão em função de tabelas de contingência, o que permite usar o teste qui-quadrado para avaliar a associação entre evasão e situação socioeconômica.
