Resumo: Sem buscar esgotar o debate, no presente artigo busca-se realizar um breve balanço sobre as discussões relacionadas aos impactos da expansão do agronegócio, em particular a sojicultura, sobre a floresta amazônica. O debate não se resume aos impactos ambientais, mas também às conseqüências sociais resultantes deste processo. De um lado apresentamos algumas idéias dos defensores da ampliação do agrosbusiness na região e por outro lado a dos opositores, contrários a esta expansão por acreditarem ser negativa para o meio ambiente e para, por exemplo, as populações indígenas e as comunidades remanescentes de quilombolas.
