APPROPRIATE CONSTITUTIONAL RESPONSES IN THE FIGHT AGAINST RELIGIOUS INTOLERANCE IN AFRO-BRAZILIAN RELIGIONS

Given the current scenario in Brazil, in which religious intolerance is increasingly present, it is necessary to reassess the way in which the individual right to freedom of belief is treated from a constitutionalist perspective, covering the historical context and what the scholars say about the subject. For this work, a descriptive-analytical methodology was chosen based on bibliographical research, informative websites and newspaper articles from the 19th and 20th centuries. It was sought, at first, to define the evolution of individual rights, and, at a second moment, to present the evolution of the law in question from the Brazilian Constitution of 1824 to the current one. Finally, it will be demonstrated that religious intolerance still operates as a present fact, with the need to use respect based on alterity as a constitutional demand.
