 eoi/doi Deposit-Electronic Object Identifierhttp://eoi.citefactor.org/10.11248/ehum.v12i2.2936O Guarani by Jose de Alencar and Il Guarany by Carlos Gomes: Literatura and Music in DialogueResumo: O Guarani de José de Alencar e Il Guarany de Carlos Gomes estão relacionados por fatores como o contexto histórico em que foram produzidos, pela temática e pelo diálogo entre os sistemas de signos, observando-se que Il Guarany é uma tradução intersemiótica de O Guarani. A partir da aproximação entre Literatura e Música, e das relações semióticas entre os sistemas de representação utilizados, este artigo analisa os elementos do romance e da ópera citadas e uma comparação sobre como cada sistema de signos utiliza esses elementos para dar origem ao texto, considerando como texto não apenas aquele composto de palavras (o romance), mas também o texto com sons, dramatização, cenário (a ópera). Através da análise realizada, tendo como objetos o livro de José de Alencar e a ópera de Carlos Gomes (considerando-se o libreto e a gravação em vídeo de uma das montagens), observou-se que é possível transmitir a ideia do artista em diferentes sistemas de signos e que o trânsito interartes, ou tradução intersemiótica, permite o acesso às obras literárias em diferentes tempos históricos e espaços, contribuindo para sua permanência e o acesso de diferentes públicos.Palavras-chaves: O Guarani; Romantismo; Literatura e Música.Abstract: José de Alencar's Guaraniand Carlos Gomes's Il Guarany are related by factors such as thehistorical context in which they were produced, the the meand the dialogue between sign systems, notingthat Il Guarany is an interse miotic translation of O Guarani. From the approximation between Literature and Music, and the semiotic relations between the representation systems used, this articleanalyzes the elements of the novel and opera cited and a comparison of howeach sign system uses these elements to giverise to the text, considering as text not only that composedo fwords (the novel), butalso the tex twith sounds, dramatization, setting (the opera). Through the analysis performed, having as objects the book by José de Alencar and the opera by Carlos Gomes (considering the libretto and thevideo recording of one of the montages), it was observed that it is possibleto convey the artist's idea in different sign systems and that interart transit, orinter semiotic translation, allows access to literary works in different historical times andspaces, contributing to their permanence and access by different audiences.Keywords: The Guarani; Romanticism;; Literature and music.Recebido em: 20/12/2019  – Aceito em 31/12/2019
