A policy of digital inclusion trough educational computing: a study with mathematics teachers reflecting about Cabri, Excel and Powerpoint aims

Resumo: In this article, we present results of a study conducted withmathematics teachers in Piraí, state of Rio de Janeiro. This municipality hasimplemented a pioneer policy of digital inclusion: the Piraí Digital Program. Theaim of this research was to verify the teachers’ understanding of the purposes and uses of three software programs — Cabri, PowerPoint and Excel — forteaching mathematics. We conducted visits and informal discussion, andteachers completed questionnaires. The results show that teachers have ageneral knowledge about the aim of each software program and illustrate theirapparent understanding of such purposes in mathematics teaching. However,we found some inconsistency in the teachers’ answers. The researchrecommends that public policies need to provide follow-up and support forteachers to implement educational computing in their classes.

Nesse município foi implementada uma política pioneira de inclusão digital no Estado: o Programa Piraí Digital. O objetivo da pesquisa foi verificar o entendimento dos docentes sobre as finalidades do Cabri Géomètre, do PowerPoint e do Excel nas aulas de matemática. Foram realizadas visitas, conversas informais e aplicados questionários. Os resultados revelam um conhecimento geral dos professores sobre os objetivos de cada software e ilustram um aparente entendimento dos educadores sobre suas finalidades no ensino de matemática. No entanto, algumas incoerências foram encontradas em suas respostas.
