Resumo: | This article aims at describing and analysing the communication ofmathematics trainee teacher’s. A qualitative methodology was used, based in the case studies of two trainee teachers that were part of the group supervised bythe researcher.The two trainee teachers showed different conceptions and practices ofcommunication in the mathematics classes. For João the communication isassociated with lecturing and student-teacher interaction. Accordingly heprepares classes in a teacher centred manner, transmitting knowledge bylecturing and explaining. Sara thinks that horizontal interactions betweenstudents should prevail, arguing that these favour a student centred learningbased on comprehension of matters. In her practices she values, although notalways successfully, discussions among students and resorts to open questionsas a way of promoting the clarification of ideas and the arousal of alternativestrategies for the resolution of tasks. |

No estudo que serviu de base a este texto, adoptou-se uma metodologia de natureza qualitativa, baseada na elaboração de estudos de caso, de dois futuros professores de Matemática que integravam o núcleo de estágio orientado pela investigadora. Quanto à comunicação na aula de Matemática, os dois futuros professores apresentam concepções e práticas diferentes. João associa a comunicação ao modo como o professor expõe a matéria e às interacções professor-aluno, implementando um ensino centrado no professor que expõe e explica, transmitindo conhecimentos.
