In august of 1973 the government of Héctor J. Cámpora launched the Alborada Plan, the objective of which was to build definitive housing complexes for the population of shanty towns in the outlying areas of the City of Buenos Aires. This paper aims to investigate how these measures, which were, in many aspects, contrary to the historic claims of the shanty town organizations, were received by the Peronist Shanty Town Movement. The policies carried out during the governments of Héctor J. Cámpora and Juan D. Perón will be considered in relation to the impact they had on the shanty towns of Buenos Aires, starting with the analysis of journalistic sources written between May 1973 and March 1974. Furthermore, the level of autonomy of the MVP will be examined, especially in regard to their ability to diverge from the positions taken by the Peronist government and the Montoneros leadership.
