Instituto de Estudos da LinguagemResumo: O presente trabalho visou a identificar e analisar as atitudes sociolingüísticas dos nativos da cidade de Cáceres, MT, e dos habitantes que para a região migraram há pelo menos oito anos, com relação à variedade lingüística local. o grande afluxo de imigrantesao Centro-Oeste do Brasil nas três últimas décadasprovocouimpactose rupturas nas estruturasfisico-biológicas,políticas e culturais da região. Dentre esses fenômenos, suspeitamos que uma acentuada estigmatização da linguagem nativa de Cáceres esteja precipitando o seu desaparecimento. Para a averiguação dessa hipótese, entrevistamos, individualmente, 12 nativos e 12 imigrantes, entre profissionais da língua (professores, advogados, jornalistas e radialistas) e não- profissionais da língua. As entrevistas, face-a-face, foram gravadas e transcritas, constituindo-se no corpus da pesquisa. Os resultados demonstram a efetividade do estigma e evidenciam estereótipos da variedade lingüística local, sendo que o preconceito se revela bilateralmente, ou seja, tanto o imigrante quanto o nativo desprestigiam as formas lingüísticas constitutivas do falar cacerense. O aspecto distintivo encontra-se na motivação do preconceito - para o primeiro, parece representar uma forma de dominação sobre o nativo; para este, um mecanismo de defesa contra as pressões sociais e econômicasAbstract: The present work aimed to identify and analyze - in regard to local linguistic variety - the sociolinguistic attitudes of the natives from Cáceres, MT, as well as of the inhabitants - migrants - who have been living here in the region for the past eight years The great flow of immigrants to the Center-West region of Brazil, for the last three decades provoked impacts and ruptures into the physical,biological, political and cultural structures of the referred region. Amongst these phenomena, we suspect that a stressed stigmatization of the native language of Cáceres is precipitating its disappearance. For the investigation of this hypothesis, we interviewed - person by person - 12 natives and 12 immigrants. The interviewed people were professionals of the langu age , such as: teachers, lawyers, joumalists and broadcasters), as well as nonprofessionals of the language. The interviews, (face-to-face) were recorded and transcribed consisting, therefore, in the corpus of this research. The results demonstrated the effectiveness of the stigma and show stereotypes of the local linguistic variety. The preconception is bilateral: both of them - immigrants and natives - do not give prestige to linguistic forms of the cacerense speech.
