From logo to computational thinking: what we can learn from the results of the use of logo language in brazilian schools

Resumo: The expression Computational Thinking has become popular and has been thought as a new approach to the use of technology in schools. It comes with the promise to improve students' ability to solve problems using computational skills, especially programming. But this is not a new idea. In the 1980 decade a large enterprise used Logo programming language in Brazilian schools in many different states of the country. This article seeks to recover some of the main results of those Logo projects to promote reflections about the current moment in which Computational Thinking knocks at the door of educational institutions.

O termo Pensamento Computacional se popularizou e tem sido apontado como uma nova abordagem para o uso de tecnologia nas escolas. A promessa é de que ela poderá melhorar a capacidade dos estudantes de resolverem problemas usando conhecimentos de Computação, em especial a programação. Mas a ideia não é nova; na década de 1980 um amplo empreendimento de uso da linguagem de programação Logo nas escolas foi realizado no Brasil em diferentes estados. Este artigo busca resgatar alguns dos principais resultados da utilização do Logo à época, a fim de promover reflexões sobre o momento atual em que o Pensamento Computacional bate à porta das instituições educacionais.
