Reflections on the cultural heritage, landscape, and traditional populations on an archaeological perspective: the riverside community of Teotonio, Rondonia

Resumo: This study discusses the relationships between what is considered cultural heritage and the riverside community of Teotonio, whose landscape was profoundly altered by the implementation of the Santo Antônio hydroelectric plant on the Madeira River, causing social conflicts. The analysis was based onthree projects that were carried out in the Teotonio community between 2009 and 2016, aimed at preserving and enhancing cultural and archaeological heritage. Thus, this analysis brings elements of the oldest history, told from archaeological studies, and the reality of local residents, who give different meanings to places and the landscape. However, the authors bring a reflection on how much these studies carried out in traditional communities, from the perspective of archeology, can mitigate the impacts caused to the memory and perception of landscape of these populations.

Este estudio discutió las relacionesentre lo que se considera patrimonio cultural y la comunidad ribereña de Teotônio (Brasil), cuyo paisaje fue profundamente alterado por la implementación de la central hidroeléctrica de Santo Antônio en el río Madeira provocando conflictos sociales. El análisis se basó en tres proyectos que se llevaron a cabo en la comunidad de Teotônio entre 2009 y 2016 con el objetivo de preservar y valorizar el patrimonio cultural y arqueológico. Este análisis trajo elementos de la historia más antigua, contada a partir de estudios arqueológicos, y de la realidad de los locales, quienes otorgan diferentes significados a los lugares y al paisaje. Sin embargo, los autores plantearon una reflexión sobre en qué medida estos estudios realizados en comunidades tradicionales, desde la perspectiva de la arqueología, pueden mitigar los impactos causados en la memoria y percepción del paisaje de estas poblaciones.       Este estudo discute as relações entre o considerado patrimônio cultural e a comunidade ribeirinha do Teotônio, cuja paisagem foi profundamente alterada pela implantação da hidrelétrica de Santo Antônio no Rio Madeira, causando conflitos sociais. A análise se deu a partir de três projetos que foram executados na comunidade do Teotônio entre os anos de 2009 e 2016, voltados à preservação e à valorização do patrimônio cultural e arqueológico. Dessa forma, esta análise traz elementos da história mais antiga, contada a partir dos estudos arqueológicos, e da realidade dos moradores locais, que dão diferentes significados aos lugares e à paisagem.
