In this article, we chose to portray a kind of engineering that permeated the composition of the collection of the Pedagogical Museum of Montevideo in its early years. Among the available collections, we chose pedagogical journals, presenting data on their composition, strategies that highlight ways of operating, political articulations that involve many of the choices and the value of this type of printed material in the highlighted period. We identified a movement that can be read as a national and foreign articulation for the composition of the collection, relationships of its director with authorities of different institutions and levels, value attributed to the content published in such journals, connections that disclose the circulation of ideas and strategies that fueled the development of schooling projects in different countries.
