The issue of the incarceration of women has gained prominence in recent years, as the rate of female imprisonment has increased by 664% in 20 years. In this context, the main objective of the research was to present the reality of the female prison system in Brazil. Through the review of several documents that discuss the profile of prisoners, the rights of prisoners, the reality of female prison units and the violation of the rights of this group of individuals. The profile of women prisoners in Brazil is mostly young, single, brown, with low education, sentenced to sentences between 4 and 8 years. Inmates have the right to material assistance, health, legal, educational, social, religious and protection that meets the specific demands of this population. However, the reality in prisons is overcrowding, lack of adequate facilities for the needs of women, lack of hygiene materials, medical care, medication, adequate and sufficient food, among others. In view of this reality, the importance of the State fulfilling its role is emphasized, enforcing what is in the laws, and above all, enforcing the individual's right to be treated under the aegis of consecrated human rights.
