Resumo: | This study analyzed the performance of high school graduating students in the State of São Paulo in the National High School Exam (ENEM) from 2009 to 2018, focusing on their biodiversity-related knowledge, considering family income and maternal education. A mixed-methods approach was employed for this purpose. The longitudinal analysis revealed low performance among young individuals, particularly those from lower-income families and with less-educated mothers, accompanied by a certain gender inequality that favored boys. These findings warn authorities, as knowledge about the subject is a relevant factor in engaging youth in actions to preserve biodiversity. The data suggest the need for discussions on educational policies and teacher training. |

Para ello se utilizó una metodología mixta. El análisis longitudinal mostró un bajo desempeño de los jóvenes, especialmente los más pobres y con madres menos educadas, cubiertos por una cierta desigualdad de género, favoreciendo a los niños. Estos resultados son una advertencia para las autoridades, ya que el conocimiento sobre el tema es uno de los factores relevantes para involucrar a los jóvenes en acciones para preservar la biodiversidad. Los datos sugieren reflexiones sobre políticas educativas y formación docente.Este estudo analisou o desempenho dos alunos concluintes do Ensino Médio, do Estado de São Paulo, nos conhecimentos relacionados à biodiversidade, no Exame Nacional do Ensino Médio, entre os anos de 2009 e 2018, em relação à renda familiar e à escolaridade da mãe. Para tal, foi utilizada metodologia mista. A análise longitudinal mostrou baixo desempenho dos jovens, sobretudo dos mais pobres e com mães menos escolarizadas, revestido de certa desigualdade de gênero, favorecendo os meninos. Tais resultados são um alerta para autoridades, pois o conhecimento sobre o tema é um dos fatores relevantes para envolver os jovens em ações para preservar a biodiversidade.
