Epidemiological characteristics of Meningitis in the 7th Regional Health Department of the State of Paraná, in the período 2010-2019

Resumo: Objectives: To characterize the epidemiological profile of the population diagnosed with meningitis in the 7th Regional Health Department in the State of Paraná between 2010 and 2019. Materials and Methods: Descriptive-retrospective study based on data available in the Notifiable Diseases Information System (SINAN) between 2010 and 2019, considering the variables: general detection, gender, race, age, diagnostic criteria, etiology and outcome. Data were tabulated in Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Word software. Results: 252 new cases of meningitis were reported at the 7th Regional Health Department of the State of Paraná during the study period, with 63.1% being male and 83.7% declared white. Regarding the age group, 25.1% of the notifications occurred in children under 01 years of age. Of the 252 cases, 36.1% were due to viral agents and 146 were confirmed through CSF chemocytology. Most patients progressed to hospital discharge and 13 cases progressed to death, all of them presenting a bacterial etiology. Discussion and conclusion of the study: Serious and temporally unlimited disease, meningitis is a public health problem, and knowing those most affected by it is essential to guide health services in the development of prevention measures and health education.

Los datos se tabularon en software Microsoft Excel y Microsoft Word. Resultados: durante el período de estudio se notificaron 252 nuevos casos de meningitis en la 7ª Secretaría Regional de Salud del Estado de Paraná, siendo el 63,1% varones y el 83,7% declarados blancos. En cuanto al grupo de edad, el 25,1% de las notificaciones ocurrieron en menores de 01 años. De los 252 casos, el 36,1% se debió a agentes virales y 146 se confirmaron mediante quimiocitología del LCR. La mayoría de los pacientes evolucionó hasta el alta hospitalaria y 13 casos evolucionaron hasta la muerte, todos ellos de etiología bacteriana. Discusión y conclusión del estudio: Enfermedad grave y temporalmente ilimitada, la meningitis es un problema de salud pública, y conocer a los más afectados es fundamental para orientar a los servicios de salud en el desarrollo de medidas de prevención y educación para la salud.Objetivos: Caracterizar o perfil epidemiológico da população diagnosticada com meningite na 7ª Regional de Saúde no Estado do Paraná entre os anos de 2010 a 2019. Materiais e Métodos: Estudo descritivo-retrospectivo, de natureza quantitativa realizado a partir de dados disponíveis no Sistema de Informação de Agravos de Notificação (SINAN) entre 2010 e 2019, frente as variáveis: detecção geral, sexo, raça, idade, critério diagnóstico, etiologia e desfecho. Os dados foram tabulados nos softwares Microsoft Excel e Microsoft Word. Resultados: 252 novos casos de meningite foram notificados na 7ª Regional de Saúde do Estado do Paraná no período do estudo, sendo que 63,1% são pertencentes ao sexo masculino e 83,7% são declarados brancos. No que tange a faixa etária, 25,1% das notificações ocorreram em crianças menores de 01 ano de idade. Dos 252 casos, 36,1% ocorreram devido a agentes virais e 146 foram confirmados por meio do exame quimiocitológico do líquor. A maior parte dos pacientes evoluiu a alta hospitalar e 13 casos evoluíram a óbito, todos apresentando etiologia bacteriana.
