Resumo: The history of fashion reveals a lot about society and its time. This article aimed to describe fashion in the context of social history and to highlight the teaching and construction of fashion knowledge. The methodology is characterized as qualitative of a descriptive nature and also as historical-evolutionary. From this framework, it was possible to infer that, starting with the Industrial Revolution, there was also a need for professionalization of fashion and teaching in fashion courses had to provide the relationship between theory and practice, to develop essential skills for the production of fashion clothing, addressed within the scope of formal training and, at the same time, meeting market demands and also the individualities present in the individual of postmodern society.

Este artículo tuvo como objetivo describir la moda en el contexto de la historia social y destacar la enseñanza y la construcción del conocimiento de la moda. La metodología se caracteriza como cualitativa de naturaleza descriptiva y también como histórica-evolutiva. A partir de este marco, fue posible inferir que, a partir de la Revolución Industrial, también era necesario profesionalizar la moda y enseñar en los cursos de moda debía proporcionar la relación entre la teoría y la práctica, para desarrollar habilidades esenciales para la producción de ropa de moda, abordada dentro del alcance de la capacitación formal y, al mismo tiempo, satisfaciendo las demandas del mercado y también las individualidades presentes en el individuo de la sociedad posmoderna.A história da moda revela muito sobre a sociedade e seu tempo. Neste artigo objetivou-se descrever a moda no contexto da história social e destacar o ensino e a construção do conhecimento de moda. A metodologia se caracteriza como qualitativa de cunho descritiva e também como histórico-evolutiva.
