Resumo: Fashion is a social and cultural phenomenon that expresses the values of society in terms of uses, habits and customs, in a given time, which integrates the simple use of clothes on a daily basis in a complex political and sociological context. The act of dressing is a form of non-verbal communication and clothing takes on the important role of transmitting relevant meanings from its issuer and also of placing it in its universe of belonging. In this article, the main objective is to highlight the concept of fashion and the relationship with fashion design and teaching. The methodology is based on the state of the art, in the perspective of qualitative research and in the descriptive approach based on three main works, by the authors Barthes, Bourdieu and Lipovetsky. It could be inferred that from fashion as a system based on continuous variations and in the contemporary and globalized world, the fashion designer is constantly challenged by new trends in materials and markets and by new social and behavioral concepts.

El acto de vestirse es una forma de comunicación no verbal y la ropa asume el importante papel de transmitir significados relevantes de su emisor y también de colocarlo en su universo de pertenencia. En este artículo, el objetivo principal es resaltar el concepto de moda y la relación con el diseño de moda y la enseñanza. La metodología se basa en el estado del arte, en la perspectiva de la investigación cualitativa y en el enfoque descriptivo basado en tres trabajos principales, de los autores Barthes, Bourdieu y Lipovetsky. Se podría inferir que, a partir de la moda como un sistema basado en variaciones continuas y en el mundo contemporáneo y globalizado, el diseñador de moda se ve constantemente desafiado por nuevas tendencias materiales y de mercado y nuevos conceptos sociales y de comportamiento.A moda é um fenômeno social e cultural que expressa os valores da sociedade em usos, hábitos e costumes, em um determinado tempo, que integra o simples uso as roupas no dia a dia a um complexo contexto político e sociológico. O ato de vestir é uma forma de comunicação não verbal e a roupa assume o importante papel de transmitir significados relevantes de seu emissor e também de situá-lo em seu universo de pertencimento. Neste artigo, o principal objetivo é evidenciar o conceito de moda e a relação com o design de moda e o ensino. A metodologia está embasada no estado da arte, na perspectiva da pesquisa qualitativa e na abordagem descritiva a partir de três obras principais, dos autores Barthes, Bourdieu e Lipovetsky.
