Economic Crisis and Formal Employment: an analysis for the medium cities of Bahia

Resumo: This paper aims to investigate the extent to which the crisis experienced by the Brazilian economy in recent years (2014-2018) impacted the stock of formal jobs in medium-sized cities in Bahia, taking as a reference the information provided RAIS. The analysis records a mosaic of trends in the behavior of formal regional employment in Bahia outside the RMS, where the 20 medium-sized cities in Bahia are located. In these cities are distributed the main productive centers with their corporate life and their work stocks, which showed peculiar behaviors in the various dimensions addressed that reflect the specificities of each of their social systems, generating cost reduction by requiring lower wages in times of crisis but which are characterized by greater uncertainty among workers in the search for their survival.

El análisis registra un mosaico de tendencias en el comportamiento del empleo formal regional en Bahía fuera de la RMS, donde se ubican las 20 ciudades medianas de Bahía. En estas ciudades se distribuyen los principales centros productivos con su vida empresarial y sus stocks de trabajo, los cuales mostraron comportamientos peculiares en las diversas dimensiones abordadas que reflejan las especificidades de cada uno de sus sistemas sociales, generando reducción de costos al exigir menores salarios en tiempos de crisis. pero que se caracterizan por una mayor incertidumbre entre los trabajadores en la búsqueda de su supervivencia.O presente trabalho tem por objetivo investigar em que medida a crise experimentada pela economia brasileira nos anos recentes (2014-2018) impactou o estoque de empregos formais das cidades médias baianas, tomando como referência as informações disponibilizadas na RAIS. A análise registra um mosaico de tendências do comportamento do emprego formal regional baiano fora da RMS, onde ficam as 20 cidades médias baianas.
