Knowledge of teachers and staff about first aid in a school setting: an almost experimental survey

Resumo: Objective: to assess the knowledge of teachers and employees of a primary and secondary school, before and after an educational intervention on first aid. Method: quasi-experimental research with a single group, before and after type. The data were collected through a questionnaire, applied before and after the intervention. The sample consisted of 38 teachers and employees. Results: the average number of correct answers about knowledge in first aid increased from 11.13 to 19.45. There was a significant improvement in the participants' knowledge regarding questions about breathing (p=0.001; p=0.004), cardiorespiratory arrest (p=<0.001; p=0.039; p=<0.001; p=<0.001), seizure crisis (p=< 0.001), fainting (p=<0.001), bleeding (p=<0.001; p=0.001; p=<0.001), choking (p=0.001), foreign body (p=<0.001) and fractures (p=<0.001). Conclusion: it is observed that there was an improvement in the level of knowledge of teachers and employees after the educational intervention, and the issues with greater significance when comparing the correct answers before and after the intervention were those related to breathing, cardiorespiratory arrest, seizure crisis, fainting, bleeding, choking, foreign body and fractures.

Método: investigación cuasiexperimental con un solo grupo, antes y después del tipo. Los datos fueron recolectados a través de un cuestionario, aplicado antes y después de la intervención. La muestra estuvo formada por 38 profesores y empleados. Resultados: el promedio de respuestas correctas sobre conocimientos en primeros auxilios aumentó de 11,13 a 19,45. Hubo una mejora significativa en el conocimiento de los participantes con respecto a las preguntas sobre la respiración (p=0,001; p=0,004), parada cardiorrespiratoria (p=<0,001; p=0,039; p=<0,001; p=<0,001), crisis convulsiva (p=<0,001), desmayos (p=<0,001), sangrado (p=<0,001; p=0,001; p=<0,001), asfixia (p=0,001), cuerpo extraño (p=<0,001) y fracturas (p=<0,001) ). Conclusión: se observa que hubo una mejora en el nivel de conocimiento de los docentes y empleados luego de la intervención educativa, y los temas con mayor trascendencia al comparar las respuestas correctas antes y después de la intervención fueron los relacionados con la respiración, parada cardiorrespiratoria, crisis convulsiva, desmayos, sangrado, asfixia, cuerpo extraño y fracturas.Objetivo: avaliar o conhecimento de professores e funcionários de uma escola de ensino fundamental e médio, antes e depois de intervenção educativa sobre primeiros socorros. Método: pesquisa do tipo quase experimental com grupo único, do tipo antes e depois. Os dados foram coletados por meio de um questionário, aplicado antes e após a intervenção. A amostra foi composta por 38 professores e funcionários. Resultados: a média de acertos sobre o conhecimento em primeiros socorros aumentou de 11,13 para 19,45. Houve melhora significativa no conhecimento dos participantes nas questões sobre respiração (p=0,001; p=0,004), parada cardiorrespiratória (p=<0,001; p=0,039; p=<0,001; p=<0,001), crise convulsiva (p=<0,001), desmaio (p=<0,001), hemorragias (p=<0,001; p=0,001; p=<0,001), engasgo (p=0,001), corpo estranho (p=<0,001) e fraturas (p=<0,001).
