Profile of students with high abilities in higher education: An analysis by educational indicators

Resumo: | Students with high abilities, the focus of this research, are characterized by demonstrating a high potential in any of these areas, isolated or combined: intellectual, academic, leadership, psychomotricity, creativity and arts. The research is configured as a qualitative and quantitative research, taken as a unit. It aims characterize students with high abilities in Brazilian Higher Education by educational indicators of the Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anísio Teixeira – INEP. The research was carried out by extracting data from the Higher Education Census conducted by INEP, in the period from 2017 to 2019, using the IBM SPSS Statistics® software, the variables analyzed were: high abilities, gender, race, administrative category and academic degree. After extracting the raw data, they were organized in Excel® tables and analyzed qualitatively and quantitatively based on thematic axes. According to the data revealed, we can trace a current profile of Higher Education Brazilian students with High Abilities, being mostly men, whites, studying in bachelor courses in private institutions. It is indicated the need for further studies and deepening with the educational indicators, in behalf of being a little explored area within the high abilities, as well as the realization of more studies with adults in the high abilities theme so that they somehow reverberate and reflect in positive actions for this portion of the population that has been neglected. |

Esta investigación se configura como una investigación cualitativa y cuantitativa, entendidas como una unidad. El objetivo es caracterizar a los estudiantes con altas capacidades en la Educación Superior Brasileña a través de los indicadores educativos del Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anísio Teixeira – INEP. La investigación se realizó mediante la extracción de los datos del Censo de Educación Superior realizado por el INEP, en el período de 2017 a 2019, utilizando el software IBM SPSS Statistics®, las variables analizadas fueron: superdotación, género, raza, categoría administrativa y grado académico. Después de la extracción de los datos brutos, fueron organizados en tablas del Excel® y analizados cualitativa y cuantitativamente a partir de ejes temáticos. De acuerdo con los datos revelados, podemos trazar un perfil actual de los estudiantes brasileños de la Educación Superior con altas capacidades, siendo mayoritariamente hombres, de raza blanca, cursando licenciaturas en instituciones privadas. Se señala la necesidad de realizarse más estudios y profundizar con los indicadores educativos, por ser un área poco explorada dentro de las altas capacidades, así como también la realización de más estudios con adultos dentro de la temática de las altas capacidades para que de alguna manera repercutan y reflejen en acciones positivas para esta porción de la población que ven sido tratada con negligencia.Os estudantes com altas capacidades, foco desta pesquisa, caracterizam-se por demonstrar um potencial elevado em qualquer uma das seguintes áreas de forma isolada ou combinadas: intelectual, acadêmica, liderança, psicomotricidade, criatividade e artes. A pesquisa configura-se como uma pesquisa qualitativa e quantitativa, entendida como unidade. Tem como objetivo caracterizar estudantes com altas capacidades na Educação Superior brasileira via indicadores educacionais do Instituto Nacional de Estudos e Pesquisas Educacionais Anísio Teixeira – INEP. A pesquisa foi realizada com a extração dos dados do Censo do Ensino Superior realizado pelo INEP, no período de 2017 a 2019, utilizando o software IBM SPSS Statistics®, as variáveis analisadas foram: superdotação, sexo, raça, categoria administrativa e grau acadêmico. Após a extração dos dados brutos, os mesmos foram organizados em planilhas no Excel® e analisados qualitativa e quantitativamente a partir de eixos temáticos. De acordo com os dados revelados, podemos traçar um perfil atual dos estudantes brasileiros da Educação Superior com altas capacidades sendo majoritariamente homens, brancos, estudando em cursos bacharéis e em instituições privadas.
