University extension project and the development of the critical - thinking on mining engineering and geology students

Resumo: All scientific knowledge must be constructed based on its impact on society; and one of the ways to work this critical- thinking on engineering students is through extension practice. The present paper evaluated - through a questionnaire - 20 students who participated in the Education, Geoscience and Mining extension program of UFMT whose participants are graduates in mining engineering or geology. In this evaluation the questions asked involved themes such as the student's interest in the course and university before and after the project, if they participated in any scientific event during the extension, if they are more prepared to discuss questions about their profession after the project, among others. As a result, those who were part of the program are more inserted, adapted and prepared to speak in public about the themes they worked on than before. It is concluded that the critical formation of the engineering student is enhanced when it is associated with a contextualized practice. The university extension project allowed mine engineering and geology students to reflect on the impact of their future profession.

El presente trabajo evaluó, a través de cuestionario, a 20 alumnos que participaron del programa de extensión Educación, Geociencia y Minería de la Universidad Federal de Mato Grosso, cuyos participantes son graduados en ingeniería de minas o geología. En esta evaluación las preguntas formuladas involucra cuestiones como el interés del alumno, por el curso y la universidad antes y después del proyecto, se produjo material para algún evento científico durante la extensión, si está más preparado para debatir cuestiones sobre su profesión y geociencias después de su intervención participación, entre otras. Como resultado, los que formaron parte del programa están más insertados, adaptados y preparados para hablar en público sobre los temas que trabajaron que antes de él. Se concluye que la formación crítica del estudiante de ingeniería es potencializada cuando está asociada a una práctica contextualizada. El proyecto de extensión aquí descrito permitió que los alumnos de ingeniería de minas y geología reflexionaran sobre el impacto de su futura profesión.Todo saber científico deve ser construído pensando no seu impacto na sociedade; e uma das formas de se trabalhar esse pensamento crítico em alunos de engenharia é através da prática de extensão. O presente trabalho avaliou, através de questionário, 20 alunos que participaram do programa de extensão Educação, Geociência e Mineração da Universidade Federal do Mato Grosso, cujos participantes são graduandos em engenharia de minas ou geologia. Nesta avaliação as perguntas feitas envolviam questões como o interesse do aluno, pelo curso e universidade antes e após o projeto, se produziu material para algum evento científico durante a extensão, se está mais preparado para debater questões sobre a sua profissão e geociências após a sua participação, entre outras. Como resultado, aqueles que fizeram parte do programa estão mais inseridos, adaptados e preparados para falar em público sobre os temas que trabalharam do que antes dele. Conclui-se que a formação crítica do estudante de engenharia é potencializada quando está associada a uma prática contextualizada.
