Oral changes in leprosy patients: knowledge and practices of higher education professionals from the Family Health team of a municipality in North East Brazil

Resumo: | Leprosy is an infectious disease that manifests itself mainly through dermatoneurological signs and symptoms. This study analyzed the knowledge and practices of higher education professionals from the Family Health (eSF) team about the interrelationship between leprosy and its oral alterations. This is a cross-sectional, observational and analytical study, with a quantitative approach. The convenience sample comprised 24 doctors, 45 nurses and 24 dentists (CDs) from the eSF of a municipality in the Northeast of Brazil. The data collection instrument was a structured questionnaire with 5-point Likert scales. Based on the research scores, it was interpreted that the professionals have "insufficient" knowledge about oral alterations in leprosy and an "adequate" practice. Evidence signaled the need to improve knowledge about oral alterations in leprosy and the organization of professional practices of all those involved in eSF, because to ensure comprehensive care it is essential to awaken to the importance of dental practices in the development of leprosy control actions in the eSF. |

Este estudio analizó el conocimiento y las prácticas de los profesionales de educación superior del equipo de Salud de la Familia (eSF) sobre la interrelación entre la lepra y sus alteraciones orales. Este es un estudio transversal, observacional y analítico, con un enfoque cuantitativo. La muestra de conveniencia comprendió 24 médicos, 45 enfermeras y 24 dentistas (CD) del eSF de un municipio en el noreste de Brasil. El instrumento de recolección de datos fue un cuestionario estructurado con escalas Likert de 5 puntos. Con base en los puntajes de la investigación, se interpretó que los profesionales tienen un conocimiento "insuficiente" sobre las alteraciones orales en la lepra y una práctica "adecuada". La evidencia señaló la necesidad de mejorar el conocimiento sobre las alteraciones orales en la lepra y la organización de prácticas profesionales de todos los involucrados en eSF, porque para garantizar una atención integral es esencial despertar la importancia de las prácticas dentales en el desarrollo de las acciones de control de la lepra. en el eSF.A hanseníase é uma doença infectocontagiosa que se manifesta principalmente através de sinais e sintomas dermatoneurológicos. Este estudo analisou o conhecimento e as práticas de profissionais de nível superior da equipe Saúde da Família (eSF) sobre a inter-relação entre a hanseníase e suas alterações bucais. Trata-se de um estudo transversal, observacional e analítico, com abordagem quantitativa. A amostra de conveniência compreendeu 24 médicos, 45 enfermeiros e 24 cirurgiões-dentistas (CDs) da eSF de um município do Nordeste do Brasil. O instrumento de coleta de dados foi um questionário estruturado com escalas do tipo Likert de 5 pontos. Baseado nos escores da pesquisa, interpretou-se que os profissionais possuem um conhecimento "insuficiente” sobre as alterações bucais na hanseníase e uma prática "adequada”.
