Defense strategies in the death and dying process: a challenge for nursing professionals

Resumo: To identify through literature review the defense strategies adopted by nursing professionals facing the process of death and dying. Descriptive study based on the integrative literature review. The search for the studies was performed in the Latin American Literature and Caribbean Health Sciences, Nursing Databases, and the Medical Literature Analysis and Retrieval System Online databases. After using the inclusion and exclusion criteria, cross-checking data and evaluating the relevance of the selected studies, 22 articles referring to the theme for article development. Among the main defense strategies adopted by nursing professionals against the process of death and dying are: resilience, professional support, trivialization, escape, religiosity and empathy and professional qualification and training. Therefore, it is inferred that the nursing professional is in constant vulnerability and fragility in the face of their own emotions regarding care in the assistance area.

Estudio descriptivo basado en la revisión integradora de la literatura. La búsqueda de los estudios se realizó en las bases de datos de la literatura de América Latina y del Caribe, en ciencias de la salud, bases de datos de enfermería y Medical Literature Analysis and a Retrieval System Online. Después de utilizar los criterios de inclusión y exclusión, verificar los datos y evaluar la relevancia de los estudios seleccionados, 22 artículos hacen referencia al tema para la composición del artículo. Entre las principales estrategias de defensa adoptadas por los profesionales de enfermería contra el proceso de muerte y morir se destacan: resiliencia, apoyo profesional, trivialización, escape, religiosidade, empatía y formacíon y capacitación profesional. Ante esto, se infiere que el profesional de enfermería se encuentra en constante vulnerabilidad y fragilidad frente a sus propias emociones con respecto a la asitencia en el área de atención.Identificar através da revisão de literatura as estratégias de defesa adotadas pelos profissionais de enfermagem diante do processo de morte e morrer. Estudo descritivo com base na revisão integrativa de literatura. A busca dos estudos foi realizada nas bases de dados da Literatura Latino Americana e do Caribe em Ciências da Saúde, Bases de Dados de Enfermagem e Medical Literature Analysis and a Retrieval System Online. Após utilização dos critérios de inclusão e exclusão, cruzamento de dados e avaliação da relevância dos estudos selecionados 22 artigos referentes à temática para composição do artigo. Dentre as principais estratégias de defesa adotadas pelos profissionais da enfermagem frente ao processo de morte e morrer destacam-se: resiliência, apoio profissional, banalização, fuga, religiosidade e empatia e formação e capacitação profissional.
