Resumo: | A biological sample bank or biobank is, by definition, a biological collection of any human, animal, plant, microbial sample, associated with sample data, managed according to technical-scientific standards. The aim of this study was to carry out a retrospective study of wild animal biobanks, emphasizing their importance in species conservation, as well as the maintenance procedures for their formation, data management and challenges. Biobanks must be protected as a huge opportunity for wildlife, through the maintenance of biological samples of DNA, somatic cells, tissues, blood, germplasm and embryos, constituting a fundamental scientific database for protection sketches of species under threat. However, there is a need to improve protocols for a range of samples, with the aim of freezing or minimizing injuries caused by cryoprotectants and cooling or freezing temperatures. Biobanks are fundamental tools to protect and manage wild fauna data, creating a conservation network for the development of species conservation strategies, in conjunction with the impasses imposed by extinction processes. |

El objetivo de este estudio fue realizar un estudio retrospectivo de los biobancos de animales salvajes, enfatizando su importancia en la conservación de especies, así como los procedimientos necesarios para su formación, manejo de datos y desafíos. Los biobancos deben ser vistos como una enorme oportunidad para la conservación de la vida salvaje, a través del mantenimiento de muestras biológicas de ADN, células somáticas, tejidos, sangre, germoplasma y embriones, constituyendo una base de datos científica fundamental para diseñar estrategias de protección de especies amenazadas. Sin embargo, existe la necesidad de mejorar los protocolos para una variedad de muestras, a fin de minimizar las lesiones causadas por los crioprotectores y las temperaturas de enfriamiento o congelamiento. Los biobancos son herramientas fundamentales con el propósito de salvaguardar y gestionar un conjunto de datos de fauna silvestre, creando una red de información para el desarrollo de estrategias de conservación de especies, ante los impasses que imponen los procesos de extinción.Um banco de amostras biológicas ou biobanco é, por definição, uma coleção biológica de qualquer amostra humana, animal, vegetal ou microbiana, associadas com os dados da amostra, gerenciados de acordo com padrões técnico-científicos. O objetivo deste artigo foi realizar um estudo retrospectivo acerca dos biobancos de animais selvagens, enfatizando sua importância na conservação de espécies, assim como os procedimentos necessários para sua formação, gerenciamento de dados e desafios. Os biobancos devem ser encarados como uma enorme oportunidade de conservação da vida selvagem, por meio da manutenção de amostras biológicas de DNA, células somáticas, tecidos, sangue, germoplasma e embriões, constituindo uma base de dados científicos fundamental para traçar estratégias de proteção de espécies sob ameaça. Todavia, há a necessidade no aprimoramento dos protocolos para uma gama de amostras, com intuito de minimizar as injúrias provocadas pelos crioprotetores e temperaturas de resfriamento ou congelamento.
