Resumo: Water availability in the soil is of fundamental importance for agricultural development and is one of the most used tools for estimating water availability through water balance. The objective is to identify the periods of water surplus and deficit, using the agroclimatological water balance between 1963-2020 in order to assist the agricultural planning of Amparo de São Francisco. The study was developed using monthly average rainfall agroclimatic data from 1963 to 2020. The average thermal air data was estimated using the Estima_T software, corresponding to the same rainfall period. The model used to determine the water balance was the one proposed by Thornthwaite; Thornthwaite & Mather and implemented its calculation structure using electronic spreadsheets. There is a risk of losses in rainfed production, planners must prepare projects aiming at a better distribution of water use. Water deficiencies were recorded from June to August. Water surpluses between September to March. Evaporated equal to the rainfall indexes and Evapotranspirated 64.1% of the total annual rainfall value. Planning followed by climatic aptitudes for better regional agricultural developments should be carried out.
