The expansion of the urban population in small cities has been prevailing, which needs to be observed and analyzed. Nowadays, mainly due to the globalization process, cities are experiencing urban swelling. This process can be called urban demographic growth. This study aims to discuss and analyze the socio-environmental problems caused by the disorderly growth of the city of Fagundes-PB. Thus, it was used a qualitative methodology, in which data were analyzed and discussed through bibliographic references. As a result, we observed the environmental problems generated by the disordered population growth, resulting in some socio-environmental problems, such as increased consumption of natural resources, irregular population (risk areas), and lack of employment among other factors that can inhibit the orderly growth of a city. For the city of Fagundes to grow in a way that does not cause environmental damage, it is necessary to invest in the area of infrastructure, job creation and environmental preservation, considering that economic growth is dependent on natural resources.
